Yesterday was, without a doubt, the best. reading. day. ever. Here at UGA, we have a "reading day" between the last day of classes and the beginning of final exams. There are no classes, no finals, and students are supposed to use the time to study.
Yeah, that didn't sound like nearly as much fun to me either.
So instead, Wendy, Kaitlin, Tara, Drew and I met up yesterday morning and drove about 30 minutes north to float the Broad! Note to anyone in Athens: If you want a cool day trip activity, GO DO THIS!! It was awesome. Broad River Outpost - Only $15 for a weekday and $20 for a weekend. Totally worth it. They say it takes 2 - 3 hours, and the part of the river you are on is about five miles. It took us 3.5 hours, because we did a lot more floating than actual kayaking. :-) The few rapids we hit weren't too intense - although everyone got stuck at least once, and a pair of shorts was lost forever to the Broad. The best part was that I DIDN'T get sunburned! Amazing, isn't it? I got a pretty solid chaco and watch tan instead. Time well spent.
Then we headed back to Athens, did a super quick change, and went to North Campus to take graduation pictures with Kaitie Bryant! Check out her website here. It was so much fun! Our group of seven was pretty awesome, I must say. We will have many more later, but here are two of my favorites:
The Arch is a big deal at UGA. As we say at football games, it is the "hallowed symbol of the University" and the three pillars represent wisdom, justice and moderation. The superstition is that if you walk under the arch before graduation, you won't finish in four years. So it is a fun tradition to take pictures at the Arch when you graduate!
This picture!! I just can't get over it. I love love love it. And all the people in it! Back row: Sara Sam, Jess, Kristen, and myself. Front: Wendy, Kaitlin, and Katie. Obsessed with this picture.
My new prof picture and main blog picture were also taken yesterday. And these are just the previews! Can't wait to see them all!
Finally saw Avatar last night! I was seriously impressed. And highly recommend it.
Cooked breakfast for my discipleship girls from Wesley this morning. First time I have ever made pancakes all by myself! Crazy, I know. At least we've fixed that now. And they were delicious, so the future of pancake making looks bright.
I think I'm finally starting to get genuinely excited about this graduation thing. New beginnings are exciting! Can't wait to see where I go from here.
Here's to the possibilities!
Lauren
