Deathly Hallows

Okay, I know I'm more than a few years behind on this one, but.... drum roll please.... I finished reading the Harry Potter series!! Ah-ma-zing. Sometime in high school I stopped reading in the middle of the fifth book (don't ask me why, I have no idea..) so this summer, I brought the fifth book and decided to try again. Before I knew it, I was buying the sixth book and frantically borrowing the seventh and now here we are, at the end of the series. I must say, I enjoyed the finale. I thought it was a great ending to the books, especially when many endings were possible. Now I just need to watch all the movies....

Even besides Harry Potter, I have been reading like crazy this summer. So far, I've finished: The Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons, A Voice in the Wind and An Echo in the Darkness (both in the Mark of the Lion series), and Harry Potter books five, six and seven. Whew. I started the Screwtape Letters this week as a summer devo for the Fellows next year, and I've picked up The Fountainhead for probably the fifth time and I'm hoping to actually finish it this time. Feel free to leave more suggestions....

We are in Elementary camp this week and having a blast! There are lots and lots of kids who are new to camp, and it is so fun to see them experiencing everything for the first time. One poor guy had to go home sick, but other than that medical catastrophes have been kept to a minimum. [Prayers this week are much needed for our counselors. They are all pretty worn out and some are starting to get sick. No good!]

This is a random, rambling post, but I promise there is just one more thing...

I have been reading in Romans lately, and I came across this passage last night and just loved it. I think it sums up the way we should act, the way we want to act, how I want to act. It's definitely my prayer for the week, and probably for many many weeks to come. So I thought I'd share it, and I hope it is as inspiring for you.

"Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.
Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."
Romans 12:9-18, 21
